Poplin Style Reference Photos
Hi!
Hopefully, these images communicate what we’re going for. Powerful, confident, strong and also warm, approachable and like she’s having fun (unless she’s going for intimidating (like Isa). I typically like shots that feel more candid or catching her off guard, but posed can work, too. Really, I’d love a variety of poses and uses. I’ve divided these up into categories with some explanation. Please feel free to reach out with thoughts or questions. I’m excited to be working together!
Walking
I’m really into walking shots as long as they don’t feel “swishy” (genius word, by the way). Also, notice that this feels like a candid instead of specifically posed.
I don’t love her facial expression here, but you get the idea.
I also don’t love her expression here, but again, you get the idea.
My favorite of the three but I like the idea behind them all.
Love that you can see all the elements of the outfit in this image even without seeing her face. I’m really into this one exactly as is.
Oh my goodness. The confidence and movement here are everything.
Leaning
I like the variety of these poses.
Clearly, this pose isn’t for everyone. But Isa can pull it off.
One of my favorites from Ashley thanks to seeing every element of her outfit, a great background and a lot of relaxed joy.
The shoes are such an important part of the styling. When they have interesting heels, I especially like to show that off in the images.
Relaxed and highlight all the elements of the outfit.
Is useful for a deck, etc.
This one is useful to highlight the style and individual pieces although probably not ideal for her. But, useful to me.
So good for her and for me.
Love her looking away from the camera.
Edgy, relaxed and useful. The only downside is not really showing the handbag, but it’s useful for other purposes since we’ve got one that shows all the components.
Especially adore showing her vaccination scar which is a point of pride for a lot of immigrants.
Standing
Sitting
I like the variety of a couple of photos with the client sitting. Although, typically they aren’t as flattering as standing or leaning, sometimes they are! Isa’s the Nanny meets OAC style comes through and she looks beautiful sitting. It’s all about flattering her shape and showing the individual components of the outfits. Sometimes sitting makes it easier to show off the accessories.
Featuring Accessories
It’s super useful to me to have photos that can be used throughout the site, on private pages for clients, in decks for sessions, etc. Images that highlight the pieces in an interesting way.
Landscape
Having an array of landscape photos that I can use for webpages, decks, etc. are incredibly useful. I really love it when there is room left for text, if necessary. This first image was my homepage for ages. Landscape photos are also useful as the covers for the individual client videos on YouTube, etc.
This behind the scenes shot is hilarious and awesome for presentations.
Love this way to highlight the pieces and the ability to use this in a deck or on the site.
Ideally, the client is at 2/3 rather than the middle. But when it’s this good, I’ll take it!
Don’t love how this turned out for her, but I am into the backdrop and the ability to use it in a deck with text.
Interesting Backdrops
While this image didn’t really turn out, the background is perfect for her and gives it more of an edge. You can see lots of interesting backdrops throughout this list.
Close Ups
While it’s vital that I have images of the entire outfit, that’s not a requirement for all of the photos. A couple of close ups that aren’t headshots are great, too. This is also nice for the client and adds some variety.
LOVE this photo showing her warm side.
Fun
As you can see, I tend toward photos that don’t have the client posed smiling at the camera, like in a school picture. I also love the candid shots when she’s having fun. These are typically achieved when I’m interacting with her during the shoot and she doesn’t notice the photo being taken.
Behind the Scenes
Images of the client and me together are insanely helpful to me and get used literally all the time.
Love that she looks like she’s a celebrity and I’m supporting her. This really feeds into the dream of working with a stylist.
Love that I’m clearly helping her with something while she’s posing and that you can see our entire outfits.
The images that highlight our connection are great.
I love that this one shows both of our outfits and shoes although her expression isn’t ideal.
At work.
