Lifestyle: Thanks to the pandemic, Sarah now works with her clients virtually. She interacts with high school students and their parents on a regular basis and has a very active lifestyle.

Approach: The added year made Sarah even more willing to experiment. With a closet that consisted of old t-shirts, leggings and fleece, she opted to do something drastic- start from scratch. She wanted a, “polished yoga retreat,” vibe and had lots of quirky interests that we wanted to include in her collection. These created deep cuts with the kids and references that made her feel powerful in items that were authentic representations of her. We also limited pieces to sustainable options in soft fabrics that felt comfortable without looking sloppy and reflected her values. As a petite person, this would inevitably include tailoring so that she would shine in every outfit.

One thing I was nervous about, when thinking about working with a stylist, was whether I would feel awkward, or like I was dressed as someone else. It was clear from the first meeting, though, that that was absolutely not going to be the case. Mellicia asked me so many questions, and I could tell she was digging down trying to really understand my sense of style, and what felt good to me. And holy cow she completely nailed it.

Okay, so we’re putting together the necklace + the bracelet + the handbag and then THIS. I know it’s way outside of your comfort zone, but I feel really good about it. Let’s discuss.

First up, you run warm so you really don’t need a bunch of super warm pieces. That being said, the top layer can elevate your look. Working from home, you’ll be especially please to wear a tank or tee and toss this over top when it’s time for a Zoom session or to head out to meet friends. The color is ideal with your other pieces. Wear it with (wait for it…. leggings and a tank, crop top or bralette), over a simple dress or as styled here- with a simple top and pants. It’s also a great cover up with your swimsuit!

This outfit of dreams continues. Underneath the printed duster jacket, layer a 100% silk top. This one will feel amazing on your skin. Shorten the straps to make it less revealing for time with your students or their parents. It is luxurious and still effortless. Keep in mind, the return policy only allows for 2 weeks, which is a drag. BUT, it’s totally worth it. The quality is impeccable and the styles are super flattering. You’ll also enjoy the color choices. In this case, I vote for olive.

And to finish off your first look. metallic Birkenstocks. There are a zillion styles, so we have flexibility here. In fact, if you aren’t feeling Birks, there are plenty of other choices, as well. I’d like to see how far we get with the resources I sent you before you invest in several pairs of shoes. For now, I vote for the shoes on this list and your grey sneakers. That should do the job until fall and we can reassess then. Metallic sandals work with everything, so making outfits is easy. Birks are hip and comfortable, so that’s another win. If your jewelry is the same color metal as your shoes, your life is simple. If not, that works, too. You’ll be going for a mixed metal approach that feels less intentional, more effortless. It’s your call!

I couldn’t live with myself without including some night out options. This one comes in several colors (some petite, some regular). Wear this beauty with your sandals, jewelry and just relax. Or, layer any of the jackets on this list over top for a more sophisticated approach. You can also adjust the straps (or have them shortened, if need be.) That will ensure it is not revealing. With students, consider transforming this into a skirt by layering a top right over it. Then, remove the top if you are heading out after work.

I know you prefer smaller jewelry. I wanted to give you a little something to experiment with. This one pulls all of your pieces together and elongates your frame. Pick it up from Ten Thousand Villages, one of the first Fair Trade companies, “putting people and planet first.” Layer it over most of the tops or dresses on this list. I especially like it with the dresses above and the taupe tops.

I have so much love for this jacket. It will show your shape beautifully, and like the duster listed earlier, it effortlessly works with the majority of this list, adding sophistication to the most casual of outfits. And this color! It’s just right over the dresses above or paired with the top below.

There are brands who offer petite sizes and are working to have a positive impact on the world. Petite Studio is one of them. With a showroom in Soho, they also partner up with Restore NYC, an anti-trafficking organization to give back locally. This stunning top is just right for meetings with parents. Wear it solo or layer it under any jackets on this list.

One way to simplify your life is to have multiple tops that accomplish the same goal but switch things up to make it interesting and fit the situation. The top above is beautiful and will elevate a more casual ensemble while the top below is sophisticated without feeling too dressy. Both are appropriate for work or play, depending on pairing and match everything to save you time and energy.

As long as they don’t overwhelm you (and these shouldn’t), they allow you plenty of space for your calves to breath and offer an alternative to leggings. These happen to also be sustainable! I’ve been wearing a pair of these for several years and I can vouch for them whole heartedly. Platform Tevas! Also, they can be tossed into the washing machine, which is a game changer, especially if the sole looks dirty.
